VISIONS 1.2  

I don't usually like to base my images on the singular aesthetic of a element of the photographic gear. For me, the use of  hi-end cameras or lenses doesn't suppose any warranty of photographic quality.  

There are a lot of photographers that consider the focal lenghts between 24-85 mm boring. But, I think that when I use systematically ultra-angular or long telephoto lenses I find more dificult to think about  the interest of scene except in concrete situations.   

We can consider this collection taken with the Nikkor 50mm F/1.2 AIS  like a exception about the upper reflexion.   


The 50mm is not my favorite for street or documentary photography. I prefer a wider focal like 35mm, 28mm or 24mm. These focal lengths allow me to get closer to the scene and to create an aesthetic more dynamic .  

The Nikkor 50mm F1.2 AI-S is a very special lens.   It's manual focus and it continues being in the actual catalog of Nikon since 1981. It's built like a tank with metal and glass in a dificult way to see in modern lenses.   

It's precise focus ring is a pleasure to use and optically is superb from f/2 to F/16.   But when you use it at F/1.2 produces a singular atmosphere in the pictures caused for multiple optical defects not corrected like in the legendary (and incredibly expensive) Noct 58mm F/1.2. 

The centre is sharp enough, but it's very dificult to achieve proper focus with a very narrow depth of field at 1.2. 

If you have enough skill and luck, the result will be a creamy and dreamy picture able to suprise without any special postprocess.  I don't think that it's good to use always this tool, although could be the leitmotiv to do a project.
