THE SOVIET FOOTPRINT (Traveling through Bulgaria)

I recently have traveled to Bulgaria like a simple tourist and with the intention of take some photographs of this country. Fortunately, a bulgarian friend that lived in Spain for some years and speaks spanish perfectly, allowed me to know the situation of this country in the present.

Bulgaria abandoned the communist regimen in 1990 and started a hard road toward the democratic capitalism concluded with the entry in E.U. in 2007.

I have visited three cities, Sofia, Pleven and Veliko Tarnovo and some rural places. In general we can see a country with a lot of economic difficulties that specially in urban areas tries to approach the lifestyle of others richer european countries.

However, the country is far to achieve the level of its richer neighbors. In the bigest cities, between modern buildings we can see old constructions built in soviet style. Some buildings have been restored and present a good aspect but the majority of them are very deteriorated and are abandoned or inhabited by people without resources to fix this situation. In rural zones the situation in worst and they look like 50 years or more in the past.

This collection of 25 pictures in chronological order doesn't try to be exhaustive and it's more like the documentary of a road movie.
